Particpate in Community Necessity Drive

As an AmeriCorps alumni, Martin Luther King Jr. Day has a special meaning as a National Day of Service. To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we give back to our community in a variety of ways. This year, current AmeriCorps members are holding a drive and gathering necessities to donate to local shelters and food pantries. The materials will be collected on Saturday, January 15th at The Fledge. To help with this endeavor, Macaroni Kid South Lansing will be collecting donations.

Please consider helping those in need in our community by supplying one or more of the following items:

Masks, Hand Sanitizer, Band-Aids, Antibiotic Ointment, Bug Spray, Sanitary Pads, Tampons, Shampoo/Conditioner, Razors, Mouthwash, Toothpaste, Lip Balm, Deodorant, Gently Used Jackets, Shirts or Pants, Shelf Stable Foods and Bottled Water.

To help with the collection efforts, I am available to come to you to gather the items and will drop them all off on Saturday. Reach out via email, Facebook or Instagram and we can arrange a time where I can pick up those items before Saturday.

Find Another Volunteer Opportunity

If you are unable to provide items for the drive, there are many other volunteer opportunities. Contact a cause that has meaning for you, and see what you can do to help. There are also organizations in need of volunteers with certain skills that you can find by clicking here.

Take Time to Educate Yourself and Your Family

Unable to participate in the Community Drive and don't have the time available to devote to an organization? That's okay. You can still celebrate through education. The National Civil Rights Museum will have a virtual celebration from 8 AM to 10PM. The link to register for this virtual event celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.s' Life is here.

There are many ways to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in South Lansing. We hope you are able to take time to celebrate the holiday this year and make an impact on the local community.
